She began her political journey in 1992 with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Daulat Ram College, later becoming the President of the Delhi University Students' Union in 1996.
Before becoming an MLA, she served as a three-time councillor and was the Mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
As National Vice President of the BJP Mahila Morcha, Gupta has led initiatives focused on women's empowerment and child development.
In the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, she won the Shalimar Bagh constituency by a margin of over 29,000 votes, defeating AAP's Bandana Kumari.

Gupta has been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since her youth, reflecting her deep-rooted ideological commitments.
